A Peek Behind the Curtain of Our Pima Cotton Factory.
Here at Lunya, we had one mission for our Essentials Collection and that was to pair our thoughtful design with the ideal fabric that is a culmination of both softness and durability. After extensive research, factory visits, and lifeline to all our fellow fashion friends, we discovered the perfect fabric (and factory) for our Pima collection.
Headquartered in the La Victoria district of Lima, Peru, our Pima factory produces the high quality Peruvian Pima that makes our Pima Essential Collection extremely soft and of exceptional quality.
About the Pima Factory Owners
With nearly a decade of experience running a textile company under his belt, Mr. Pallette founded the knit and apparel manufacturer in 2000 with a team of experts who helped simplify and streamline his process. The goal? To develop a best-in-class operation with reliable, innovative, and socially responsible products and services. After more than a quarter-century in the business, Alfredo and his colleagues know a thing or two about top-notch fabric production.
Farm to Fabric
You’d be hard-pressed finding a better quality cotton than Peruvian Pima, thanks in part to the ideal growing conditions in coastal Central and Northern Peru. Harvested by hand, it’s not only eco-friendly, but the harvesting and production process ensures a more durable, silkier fiber…just what you want for a luxurious night’s sleep. Pima’s extra-long fibers are responsible for the cotton’s versatility and super smooth hand-feel: the longer the fiber, the smoother the cotton and less inclined it is to pill. Did we mention it’s hypoallergenic and super absorbent, too? In other words, it’s great for sensitive skin and sweaty sleepers. (No shame in that!)
Finally, to take it from farm to fabric, the factory spins the fiber into yarn, then knits it into Lunya’s custom made to order fabrics. The comprehensive process continues on through the dyeing - Peru panel dye’s our fabrics so they are colorfast, rich and beautiful.
We’re not in the business of fast fashion. Instead, in addition to using eco-friendly material like Pima, we design every piece in house, our founder, Ashley, tries on every garment sample herself before sending pieces to production. If garment’s pass her approval they are then voted on by a pool of customers to ensure that they are pieces that are well liked and will sell well. This investment of time in advance of production allows us to serve up best in class pieces without the waste. Did you know that the average american discards 82lbs of clothing a year? (SOURCE) this is why we’re conscious of producing as little waste as possible.
For Lunya, luxury is about quality, style and impeccable execution, not about an inflated price tag. Our core business is centered around being direct to consumer, which means we can invest in the fibers like our sensational Pima and master craftsmanship and deliver superior value at a fair price.
